Open transformer in MaKay Street poses danger

According to Mr Strydom, principal of Highveld Ridge Primary School, this has been a dangerous problem for more than 12 months.

SECUNDA – In a meeting held recently with Mr Marinus Strydom, principal of Highveld Ridge Primary School, concerns were raised over the safety of his learners while a transformer has been left dangerously open and cables exposed in McKay Street, Secunda.

According to Mr Strydom, this has been a dangerous problem for more than 12 months.

“We have reported this matter to our local councillor and the Govan Mbeki Municipality, but nothing has been done.

“This transformer is dangerously open and poses a danger to my learners and those around here. It is my responsibility to protect the learners of this school, however, it is the responsibility of the municipality to ensure this transformer is closed up properly,” said Mr Strydom.

The Ridge Times raised the principal’s concerns to Mr Donald Green, acting head of communications, who said GMM is aware of several of these mini-substations in the area.

“We are awaiting for the procurement process to be finalised so that they are fixed and repaired,” said Mr Green.
