Cricket season bats off at Sasol Club

The first weekend of the cricket season saw all the Sasol teams playing head to head.

SECUNDA – It was great to see some action again on the cricket fields at the Sasol Club over the past weekend after a long lockdown and much postponement.

The first weekend of the cricket season saw all the Sasol teams playing head to head.

On Saturday, 13 March, the two U/15 teams kicked off the season with Sasol S winning the toss and sending in Sasol O to bat.

Sasol O managed 78/6 in their 20 overs with Nadir Abbas top scoring with 22 runs.

The best bowler for Sasol S was Wian van den Berg who took two wickets for 10 runs in his four overs.

In reply, Sasol S managed to chase the score in 11.3 overs.

Both Sasol S openers retired not out with Rovonne Singh top scoring with 26.

Sasol S won the match with nine wickets.

The Second match, also on Saturday, saw the two U/13 teams competing.

Sasol Strikers won the toss and elected to bat. They managed a total of 90 all out.

Pieter Viljoen top scored with 10.

Sasol Stars’ best bowler was Chris van Schalkwyk with one wicket for seven runs in his two overs.

Sasol Stars managed to get the total in 12.2 overs.

Chris van Schalkwyk (21 runs) and Andries Coetzer (20 runs) both retired not out before Marnus Groenewald (18 runs) took Sasol Stars over the line with nine wickets to spare.

The seniors also played an inter club match with a combined first and second team.

Team one scored a total of 119/3.

Johan van Antwerpen was top scorer with 67 runs before he was dismissed on a run out.

Team two managed to reach 107/9 in their 20 overs.

Nicus Boshoff took three wickets for team one.

In the afternoon match it was the turn of the two U/19 teams.

Sasol O won the toss and selected to bat first.

Ruan Jacobs played a fantastic knock for 65 not out to help his team to a solid total of 112/2.

Sasol S managed to win with four wicket with a match that was even closer than the results may suggest.

Johan van Antwerpen scored 37, but the experience of Michael Rossouw took Sasol S over the line with a well played 25 not out.

Sasol O’s best bowler was Johan Pieters who took three for 11 in his four overs.

The next round of fixtures will take place on 27 and 28 March.
