UPDATE – Police arrest motorist who almost ran children and residents over at Nomdeni, Ermelo

One resident allegedly sustained injuries while jumping out of the vehicle's way.

The Ermelo Police arrested a suspect this morning who almost ran children and residents over who were playing soccer in a field on 27 January.

According to Capt Carla Prinsloo, spokesman for the Ermelo Police, the suspect has been taken into custody and is said to appear in the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court either today or on Monday.

The police are investigating a case of attempted murder.

As soon as more information is obtained a follow-up article will be published in the Highvelder Newspaper.

A motorist almost ran over children and residents of Nomdeni, Ermelo on 27 January.

According to a source, who agreed to speak to the Highvelder on condition of anonymity, children and residents of various ages – the youngest being 7-years-old, were playing soccer in a field.

A resident recalled noticing a motorist driving pass them the first time, but did not make much of it.

“The motorist drove straight at us, crashing into and knocking down a pole in the process.”

One resident allegedly sustained injuries while jumping out of the vehicle’s way.

According to the source, residents will open a case at the Ermelo Police Station on 29 January.
