Members of the South African Communist Party (SACP) and the African National Congress (ANC) stomped their feet in unison outside the Ermelo Magistrate’s Court on 2 December.
They opposed the bail of a suspect who appeared in court in connection with the rape and murder of a 19-year-old woman.
The protest was orchestrated by the SACP who invited ANC members to join the rally.
About 800 locals signed a petition on 9 December to oppose the bail of the suspect.
Mr Mzwandile Zulu, the South African Communist Party (SACP) sub-district convener, said: “we were picketing because the suspect was appearing for a bail application.”
He added, SACP did not hand over a memorandum but instead a petition and we requested for the petition to be attached to the docket as the suspect must not be given bail.
