NEHAWU members protest in front of Ermelo Provincial Hospital

“For this reason, we are going ahead with our intention to embark on an extensive national campaign aimed at withdrawing our labour power in all the sectors that we organise until our demands are met favourably.”

The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (NEHAWU) recently took a National Day of Action and protested in front of the Ermelo Provincial Hospital.

Mr Chris Nobela, the spokesman for the Provincial Health Department, said: “A memorandum was handed over to the office of the premier at the government complex in Mbombela on 3 September.”

Ms Sibongile Mkani-Mpolweni, the spokesman for Mpumalanga’s Premier, said; “The Premier received the memorandum and most of the things raised are dealt with nationally by the president as it was a national strike.”

According to Mr Khaya Xaba, national spokesman of NEHAWU, the national union gave the president seven days to respond favourably and adequately to demands contained in the memorandum.

“So far, no response has been received from the President.

“For this reason, we are going ahead with our intention to embark on an extensive national campaign aimed at withdrawing our labour power in all the sectors that we organise until our demands are met favourably.”

Mr Xaba explained, a press conference was being convened to outline the state of readiness and to secure the details of the strike in Johannesburg.
