Woman shot dead in Bethal

Const Mogadime said Ms Sussarah Johana Potgieter and her husband were outside their home when she was shot. Mr Potgieter told the police he heard a terrible sound and then saw his wife falling down.

BETHAL – A woman was shot dead in her yard in Louis Trichardt Street in Bethal yesterday, 27 June.

According to Const Thomas Mogadime, spokesman for Bethal Police, the woman died from multiple injuries from what appears to be pellet holes in her back.

Const Mogadime said Ms Sussarah Johana Potgieter and her husband were outside their home when she was shot. Mr Potgieter told the police he heard a terrible sound and then saw his wife falling down.

Their daughter and son-in-law were in the house at the time of the incident. Mr Potgieter called them for help. The son-in-law noticed blood on Ms Potgieter’s T-shirt. He helped his father-in-law to take Ms Potgieter to the Bethal Hospital.

According to Const Mogadime, Bethal Hospital alerted the police at about 11am.

Ms Potgieter died at hospital from her injuries. A doctor extracted one of the pellets from Ms Potgieter’s body.

When the police arrived at the hospital, Dr Sandie Nkumane took them to the ward. The police’s Local Criminal Record Centre (LCRC) team was also summoned to the scene.

They noticed 21 wounds resulting from pellet shots into Ms  Potgieter’s body.

Police are investigating a case of murder and request anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect, to call Detective Sgt Thembinkosi Maseko at 083 2385 546.
