Ms Lindi Masina wishes matriculants best of luck

Executive mayor says the time for matriculants to reap the fruits that they have sown from the beginning of the year, has come.

We, the political leadership of the Govan Mbeki Municipality, would like to take this opportunity and wish all our matriculants good luck as they write their final examinations for 2014.

We strongly believe that the success of this country lies in education.

As you sit for your examinations, regard this opportunity as golden, because there are children somewhere else in the world who have been denied the opportunity to learn due to a variety of reasons, chief among them being war and civil strife.

This is the time for you to reap the fruits that you have been sowing from the beginning of the year.

Remember that the best student for the 2013 matric results came from this municipality in the person of Bhavika Mistry.

I would like to urge all of you to emulate Bhavika by ensuring that you perform to the utmost best of your ability and keep this special crown in the Govan Mbeki Municipality.

This message also goes to those pupils who have not yet reached matric.

We also call upon you to prepare for your matric now so that when you reach this milestone, you are already combat ready and completely prepared.

As a teacher myself, it is my considered view that we can achieve amazing matric results year in and year out if we can inculcate in ourselves the mentality of proper and early planning by performing a task of tomorrow today.

What is expected to be completed in 30 minutes, do it in 15 minutes through early planning and paying attention to detail.

We call upon parents to support your children and give them encouragement as they write these examinations.

As parents across the colour lines, we should stand up and play a positive role in the education of our children because these children are definitely the leaders of tomorrow.

We believe that the Class of 2014 has a more critical responsibility of surpassing previous matric results and producing more pupils like Bhavvika.

Education forms a greater part of our philosophy, namely the dawn of the new age.

We wish you all the best in your final exams.

LL Masina, executive mayor, Govan Mbeki Municipality.
