Sasol receives award

Sasol Synfuels held a ceremony to celebrate the Green Drop certification award received from the Department of Water Affairs recently.

SECUNDA – Sasol Secunda received a Green Drop certification with a rate of 92.9 per sent for its excellent waste water regulation standards in 2013.

The Department of Water Affairs applauded Sasol for its commitment to comply with the terms of its water use license and with all the requirements of the Green Water audit process.

Sasol was also commended for its significant improvement in waste water management.

The Sasol waste water treatment plants are an example of its water stewardship.

Fresh water resources are globally accepted as being scarce and under increasing pressure.

Sasol is acutely aware of the responsibility that comes with being a large industrial water user, particularly in South Africa where Sasol’s largest operations are situated.

It recognises the challenging regulatory and voluntary commitment landscape within which it operate and has made the management of water a strategic priority.

Mr Chwayita Faku, senior manager: Production Water and Ash, said: “We are very pleased to have been awarded this prestigious and world class Green Drop status.

“It is a testimony of the excellent work that the operations and technical team at the Secunda waste water treatment plant has done and continues to do, as well as our partnership with the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality.

“Our aim is to drive continuous improvement in waste water service performance with the intention of achieving 100 per cent in all effluent quality standards.”
