57-year-old sentenced for smuggling six-year-old boy from Mozambique to South Africa

Nyantumba smuggled a six-year-old boy from Mozambique to South Africa in May 2018 and later exploited him to work for her without payment.

Judith Nyantumba (57) was convicted and sentenced in the Carolina Regional Court on 18 July to 10 years’ imprisonment for human trafficking.

The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit took over the case and ensured that the suspect was brought to book.

Maj General Zodwa Mokoena, Provincial Head of the Directorate For Priority Crime Investigation, applauded the investigating team together with the prosecuting team for ensuring that the matter was finalised speedily.

She further urged residents to report such incidents whereby young children are exploited.
