Sassa gives way to Nehawu-demands

The deadlock between Sassa and members of the National Education Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) over the agency’s use of the biometric system was broken.

Employees of the South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) took up the call from their union and embarked on a strike in front of the Jerrie van Vuuren Building in Standerton on 10 October.

The deadlock between Sassa and members of the National Education Health and Allied Workers Union (Nehawu) over the agency’s use of the biometric system was broken after a meeting and Sassa put this system on the backburner.

The union argued that workers should be paid extra for this new function that is not included in their job description, while Sassa contradicted the statement and said workers were trained to help beneficiaries this way.
