Skhulu develops youth soccer in Breyten

He is currently coaching his first team in the Gert Sibande Region SAB league and lives by his words, that children can make careers out of sports.

“I wish every child could get the opportunity to explore his spor-ting talent,” says Doctor William “Skhulu” Mnisi.

He is a legend in soccer circles around Msukaligwa, especially in Breyten.

Born and bred on the Rietspruit farm near Amersfoort, he moved to Breyten at a young age where his love for soccer was discovered.

He favourite position is goalkeeper and he played in that position throughout his soccer career.
Skhulu stopped playing to focus more on the development side of soccer by starting a team called Young Stars in 1991.

He developed the team and merged with another to start the Breyten KwaZanele United Football Club (BKU).

The united team has been in existence for more than 22 years with him at the helm with his experience as coach for more than 27 years.

They are Breyten’s pride and joy, as they have completed twice in the playoffs of the ABC Motsepe League, meaning they have twice been champions of the Gert Sibande Region SAB league.

Skhulu focuses more on the development side of soccer and has managed four teams under the BKU umbrella.

The team boasts the U/13s, U/15s, U/16s and the first team.

He is not a coach in name only, but has been trained and has coaching certificates from the South African Football Association in the Gert Sibande Region.
It has not been an easy road for the coach, having to fund the team out of his own pocket and the tournaments they win.

He credits his success to Simon Shongwe and Amos Nzima, who have assisted him with the administration, funding and looking after the team.

Skhulu has many feathers to his cap, having coached the Masizakhe Secondary School U/14 team that represented the province at the McDonald’s Cup and came sixth.

He is currently coaching his first team in the Gert Sibande Region SAB league and he lives by his words, that children can make
careers out of sports.
