Municipality prioritises water again

The Lekwa Municipality has prioritised water again and allocated R10-million for the project.

The Lekwa Council has resolved that the upgrading of the Standerton Water Treatment Works be prioritised again and implemented.

The project will be registered according to the municipal infrastructure grant programme and the budget allocated is R10-million.

The project includes the replacement of AC pipes with PVC pipes, the upgrade of the Standerton waste water treatment works, the installation of boreholes and installing sanitation services in rural areas.

The municipality has water shortages in some parts of the area and faces challenges with regards to ageing infrastructure and high water losses.

The Gert Sibande District Municipality and the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) have also funded the project.
