China’s discipline impresses SA visitor

Mduduzi David Mnisi from Bankfontein near Breyten recently returned from a two-week seminar on rural development and poverty reduction held in Beijing.
He was one of 38 young people from the National Rural Youth Corps (NARYSEC) programme and the Rural Enterprise and Industrial Development (REID).
The purpose of the study tour was to undertake training in China on their rural poverty alleviation strategy and visit project sites in rural China.
The study tour was part of the Department of Rural Development’s Solidarity Programme, where young people undertake study tours to various countries to learn best practices in order to enrich the department’s policy making and programme implementations models.
According to Mduduzi, his co-travellers came from all nine provinces and are skilled in construction and agriculture and the majority of them represent small enterprises engaged in agricultural production.
He is also confident that after the seminar, they will be able to transfer to other youth their new skills and knowledge acquired during their training in China and to assist with the day-to-day running of their small businesses.
During their tour, the group met with the South African Ambassador to China, His Excellency Dr Bheki Langa, who encouraged them to seize the opportunity and grasp as much as they can.
The youth delegation also had an opportunity to explore the city of Beijing and was taken to China’s biggest tourist attractions such as the Forbidden City, Tian’an Square and the Great Wall of China, among others.
Mduduzi was greatly impressed with discipline and work ethics of the Chinese.
