Reminder: Planned electricity supply interruptions is scheduled for Secunda

The electricity supply will be switched off at 8am on 17 March and will only be restored at 12pm on 19 March for those areas that were not previously affected.

SECUNDA – Residents in Secunda are in for another long haul without electricity this month.

Last month, parts of Secunda saw a planned power supply outage that lasted longer than 24 hours due to the upgrading of the main-sub 2 station.

Areas that were not previously affected, will be this time around. There will be a planned upgrade of the main sub-station.

The electricity supply will be switched off at 8am on 17 March and will only be restored at 12pm on 19 March for those areas that were not previously affected.

The purpose of the interruptions is to carry out necessary work at the Secunda main sub-station.

All affected residents and businesses are advised to switch off and treat all electrical wiring as live during these times to avoid injury and any damages that may occur when the electricity is restored.

Ms Mariaan Chamberlain, DA Councillor, said residents must please make provision.

Residents who are in need of medical equipment, who are diabetics or who suffer from any other medical condition where medicine needs to be kept cold, must take note and not be caught off guard.

Ms Chamberlain and the maintenance personnel received many insults from the public last month when the said 24-hour period was over and most residents were still left without electricity hours later.

Although the best planning is being done, she urged those that will be affected to make provision as the time frame could be extended.

Areas affected this time around will be around Albany, Laerskool Kruinpark, Laerskool Oranjegloed, Silkaatskop, Builders’ Warehouse, Tuscan Village and OK Foods. Areas previously affected were Trichardt, Terra Nova, Extension 22, Extension 23, Sunset Park, Sasol Junction Garage, Secunda Mall and parts of the Secunda CBD.
