Graham Malinga wins 42km Sasol Marathon

In the category for 60 years and older, Sandile Maibuko of Standerton Marathon Club won with a time of 4:15,53.

SECUNDA – More than 1 400 athletes competed in the Sasol Marathon on Satuday, 15 February and Graham Malinga of Eskom won the 42.2km. His time was 2:28,47.

The runner-up in the category, Mandla Nkabinde of Anglo, completed the race in 2:35,38.

Gift Mokoena of Hamlet Online finished third in a time of 2:37,37.

Malinga was also the winner in the category for runners of 40 years and older, while Petrus Johannes Sibande of Bethal Marathon Club finished second in this category with a time of 3:02,36.

Dieter Stapel of Benoni Marathon Club was the winner in the category for men of 50 years and older with a time of 3:22,47. Johan van Staden of Kempton Park Marathon Club finished second in this category with a time of 3:27,43.

In the category for 60 years and older, Sandile Maibuko of Standerton Marathon Club won with a time of 4:15,53.

Caroline Poonan of Massmart was the first woman in the 42.2km race to cross the finish line with a time of 2:56,29, while Natasha Malan of Nedbank finished second with a time of 3:20,27 and Anel Riekert of Kempton Park Marathon Club third with a time of 3:21,52.

Poonan was also the first woman in the category for women of 40 years and older while Cecilia Modiri of Team Vitality finished second in this category with a time of 3:49,3.

In the category for women of 50 years and older, Rita van Wyk of Boksburg Marathon Club finished first in 4:01,41 and Mandy Atkins of Magnolia finished second in 4:06,37.

Leonie Jurgerns of HOT won the category for women of 60 years and older in 3:56,44.

Moses Mahlanga of Nkangala was the first man to cross the finish line of the 21km race with a time of 1:06,41 while Andries Sesedi of Colossus finished second in 1:07,10 and Jabulane Khoza third in 1:07,28.

Sesedi won the category for juniors (U/20 runners). In the category for runners of 40 years and older, Maseko Ntuthuko of Nedbank won with a time of 1:12,24 while Johnson Mbowane of Nkangala finished second in 1:17,12.

Abedwego Shongwe of Anglo won the category for men of 50 years and older in 1:24,43 and Linda Maphanga of Orkas finished second in 1:25,58.

Firemen take part in the Sasol Marathon on Saturday, 15 February at Sasol Recreation Club.

Paul Grobler of Secunda Marathon Club won the category for men of 60 years and older in 1:47,50.

Eunice Nhlapo of Eskom was the first woman to cross the finish line in the 21km race and her time was 1:25,34.

Xoli Madida of Natal Carib finished second in 1:27,43 and Lou-Ann Smit of Boksburg Marathon Club finished third in 1:29,29.

Nhlapo was also the winner in the category for women of 40 years and older while Broni van der Meer of Secunda Marathon Club finished second with a time of 2:07,49.

Martha Harmse of Secunda Marathon Club won the category for women of 50 years and older in 1:44,42 while Gurina Odendaal of Eskom finished second in 2:08,47.

Magriet Geyer of Maxed finished first in the category for women of 60 year and older in 1:54,21.

Resa Cilliers was the first walker to cross the finish line in 2:39,44.
