Secunda gymnasts to take part in next rhythmic competition

These young athletes respectively competed at a rhytmic and an artistic competition

SECUNDA – Several gymnasts from the Sasol Rhythmic Gymnastics Club competed in the Mpumalanga trials this month.

These young athletes respectively competed at a rhythmic and an artistic competition. Velné Smit achieved a bronze medal at level 1, Siphesehle Lukhozi achieved a silver medal at level 1, Tina Kleynhans achieved a bronze medal at level 2 and Elsje Heiberg won a bronze medal at level three.

These four gymnasts each scored an average above 22 and were selected for the Mpumalanga team that will be taking part in the Zone competition in Johannesburg on 14 and 15 June.

Sasol Rhytmic Gymnastics Club also boasts with athletes who excelled in the artistic competition and quite a few of them made it through to the second Mpumalanga trial that will take place in Ermelo on 24 and 25 May, during which a final team will be chosen to take part in the Zone Championship from 13 to 15 June.

The boys who took part in the competition on level 1, are Reinhard Noordman with a gold medal for his average score, Liam de Beer with a silver medal, and Himesh Makan, Phillip Meyer and Quayden Lange with a bronze medal each.

The level 2 boys who competed, are Adriaan Erasmus with a bronze medal and Jean-Pierre de Villiers with a silver medal.

Wian Nel and Kian van der Linde obtained bronze medals at level 3.

All four the boys on levels 2 and 3 have been selected to take part in the second Mpumalanga trials.

The artistic girls who competed on level 1 are Kaylee May Steyn and Tumelo Ngxongo won gold medals.

Tumelo was the overall winner in her age group. Siphesehle, Thato Ngxongo, Amoré van Niekerk and Elri van Wyk also obtained silver medals. Abby Vertue, Celine Burger and Lia Noordman each obtained a silver medal at level 2.
