Premier promises to root out corruption

She was sworn in as a premier on Monday 27, May at eMalahleni.

HIGHVELD – Mpumalanga Premier, Ms Refilwe Tsipane (Formerly Mtsweni) have committed herself to cherish, uphold, defend and protect the constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

She shared these sentimentds during her inauguration when she addressed the attendees.

She thanked the party for electing her and said it is a great responsibility that has been bestowed on her.

She is dedicating her term in office to gallant freedom fighters, in particular women such as Ms Nokuthula Simelane from Bethal who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of South Africa.

Ms Tsipane promised to work towards improving the fortunes of the province by attracting investors to address, amongst others, the high unemployment rate.

She spoke about the need to craft new terms of engagement between businesses, government and labour.

“We will ensure that the small business owners are assisted in getting their produce procured and generate money so as to create employment opportunities, especially for the youth.

“We have programs to help create employment and every municipality must have a youth desk to assist young people.”

She vowed to live up to the people’s expectations and to root out corruption during her term.

The Democratic Alliance in Mpumalanga congratulated Ms Tsipane on being sworn in as the Premier of Mpumalanga Province.

The party said the past administrations were marred by large scale corruption, political killings and a network of patronage that continues to thrive to this day.

“For these engagements to have a meaningful impact on the people, this new administration must operate in a transparent manner and have zero tolerance against any form of corruption.

“Any Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) or private-public-partnerships must be fully disclosed to all citizens so the people of this province can know exactly where and how their government is working for them.

“During Premier Tsipane’s year-long tenure as Premier in the previous administration, she made many promises such as effectively dealing with collapsed municipalities, the exorbitantly high Eskom debt and accelerating the delivery of basic services.

“This is the time for Premier Tsipane to finally deliver on these promises, as well as to make the necessary changes to the government in order to ensure that this province is run by people centered administration.

“The DA will support Premier Tsipane should she demonstrate a genuine commitment to bringing about real change as well as a willingness and ability to put the interests of the people above the interests of factions within her party,” the DA stated in a press release issued after the premiers inauguration.
