New sport venture aims to develop and promote local kids

SECUNDA – The New Beginnings Sport Development aims to develop and promote the young sport talent in the area.

This venture is affiliated to the Pretoria Rugby Club that is in turn affiliated to the Blue Bulls.

They specifically focus on rugby, sevens rugby, and hockey for players from U/11 to U/19.

Messrs Cobus van Rooyen and Hermann Swart from New Beginnings Sport Development said there are already two tournaments lined up, as well as international tournaments that are still in the pipeline.

They wants to send girls and boys hockey players to the Rhino Week later this year.

Then there is the Future Blue Bulls rugby tournament taking place at Bela-Bela from 19 to 22 June.

This event makes provision for rugby players from U/11 to U/19.

The purpose of the tournament is to create an additional pipeline and pathway for players and coaches to the provincial and even professional structures of the Blue Bulls.

It is also a chance to expose players and coaches to a chance within the club structures and tertiary institutions of the Blue Bulls Rugby Union.

Bryan Habana, iconic world rugby player and Blue Bulls legend, is the brand ambassador of the Future Blue Bulls Tournament.

Many other high profile players, former players, SuperRugby coaching staff members, provincial and academy scouts will attend the tournament to conduct coaching clinics and identify talent.

“We are specifically inviting U/11, U/17 and U/18 rugby players, as well as hockey boys and girls of U/16 to U/18.

“We are also looking for sevens rugby players from ages /U11 to U/18 for a sevens tournament at Loftus later this year,” said Mr Van Rooyen.

Pieter van Niekerk, the captain of Hoërskool Oosterland’s first team, is already one of their players.

This Grade 12 learner is being developed for the Mustangs team comprising also of players from Paul Roos Gymnasium and Paarl Boys High School who will be travelling to Los Angeles on 25 June.

Pieter is performing exceptionally well, despite a knee injury sustained in a school game in the PUK tournament three weeks ago.

The New Beginnings Sport Development helped with Pieter’s rehabilitation of the knee.

They have also secured him a sponsorship from Supa Quick.
