Rugby team organises angling competition near Bethal

BETHAL – Two local rugby players are part of the South African Phuket Vagabonds rugby team that will take part in the 21st Phuket International Rugby 10’s tournament in Thailand.

Nico Jonker and Jimmy van Eeden from Bethal will take part in the tournament.

The tournament will take place from 24 to 26 May and the aim of the tournament is to raise money for the Asia Center Foundation that helps less privileged children to get an education.

Teams from around the world take part in this tournament over three days.

The captain of the Vagabonds, Tjaart van der Walt, helped to lift up the cup in 2015, 2017 and 2018.

The team is currently raising money to make it possible for all the players to go to Thailand and one of the money raising events will take place at Remhoogte Farm 25km outside Bethal.

An angling competition will be held at this farm on Saturday, 11 May and it will begin at 6am.

Entry fee is R150 per angler and children younger than 12 can enter free of charge.

There will be a DJ on the day of the angling competition as well as a cash bar, entertainment for the children, food stalls and take aways.

There are big prizes up for grabs as well as lucky draws during the day.
