Owner of engineering company wants his money from Govan Mbeki Municipality

Man had to borrow money to finish the job

SECUNDA – The owner of an engineering company in Bethal is in financial trouble due to non-payment by Govan Mbeki Municipality for work he had completed last year.

According to the owner, the municipality owes him a total of R35 000 for two different jobs.

“Every time I call the municipality they say that I will receive payment next week, but then next week comes and goes without payment,” said the owner.

I had to borrow money to buy the materials for the work, but now I cannot even pay the labourers.

“The money that I borrowed have now accumulated interest that I also need to settle”

Allegedly the contact person from the municipality is ignoring the calls from the owner of the engineering company.

He then decided to send his wife to the municipality so that she could speak to them in person, but was told that he is in a meeting.

“My wife even went back a few times later that day and they insisted that he was still in a meeting.

“Does a meeting take the whole day?”

Mr Benzi Soko, Chief of Staff at Govan Mbeki Municipality said he is investigating the matter.
