‘Never be too old to learn,’ says Ms Lynette Dawn Botha

She committed one Wednesday afternoon every month to broaden her understanding of accounting to give herself an edge in the classroom and is planning on joining the program in 2019.

SECUNDA – Ms Lynette Dawn Botha (59) swears by one rule, “The day you stop learning, is the day you are dead.”

She is alive with enthusiasm and ever ready to gain knowledge, especially her favourite, general knowledge.

Ms Botha is married and has two grown children. Her daughter is a chartered accountant and with numbers running in the family and has several other members of her family in the accounting field.

“I learn something new every day from my learners, they think that they can only learn from me, but that is not true. If you open your mind to learn, you will broaden your knowledge.” said Ms Botha,

Ms Botha is an accounting teacher at Highveld Park High School who was recently honoured for her 100 percent attendance at the KPMG and Osizweni accounting program at Fortis Hotel in Evander.

She committed a Wednesday afternoon every month to broaden her understanding of accounting to give herself an edge in the classroom and is planning on joining the program again in 2019.

In 2011, Ms Botha moved to Secunda from Randfontein, where she was based for 21 years.

Previously she taught in the private sector, which is different to the government sector, but she says that the gratitude from her learners is what keeps her going.

Teaching surely has changed from the time she started but that does not stop her from giving her best and continually advancing her skills and knowledge.

She was rewarded a R1 000 gift card to use at Incredible Connection, a certificate and a futuristic memory stick which she cannot wait to use.
