Ermelo, Morgenzon and Standerton roads blocked with coal

“Motorists can only pass the coal obstacle if they drive off the road and onto the gravel side walk.”

BETHAL – Coal truck drivers under contract with Eskom to deliver coal to their power plants, have proven their disgruntlement with the electricity supplier by dumping truck loads of coal on the N17 highway and the Standerton road outside Bethal today, 6 September.

The coal have been strewn across the roads towards Ermelo and Standerton, as well as the turn-off to Morgenzon.

According to Mr Hennie Bekker from Afriforum who is currently filling up potholes in Bethal, the truck drivers said they are demonstrating because they have not been paid for their services.

“Motorists can only pass the coal obstacle if they drive off the road and onto the gravel side walk.”

Mr Bekker said the coal have not yet been cleared away.
