eMbalenhle family claims mob killed son

The deceased went to the eMbalenhle Police Station to report that his brother was being assaulted by residents.

The family of the man who was found dead in the Welamlambo River suspects that he was assaulted and thrown into the river by an angry mob from Extension 5.

The man’s body was discovered by men fishing on 15 August.

His relatives said they were saddened by his death because they buried his brother in Mozambique a week ago.

They last saw him on 2 August when he ran for his life after an angry mob wanted to assault him.

It is alleged that the brother of the deceased was accused of selling stolen televisions in the area and was assaulted by the mob.

The deceased went to the eMbalenhle Police Station to report that his brother was being assaulted by residents.

He went to the scene with the police where residents were angry that he had informed the police about the incident.

“They chased him after the police left the scene. That was the last time that we had seen him. His brother was taken to Evander Hospital where he later died.”

Const Busi Mthethwa, police spokesman, said the police opened an inquest pending the investigation.
