What will municipaity do about potholes?

Residents are concerned about traffic ligths not working in Secunda.

SECUNDA – The Echo and Ridge Times have reported about the state of the roads and the potholes numerous times and residents are still concerned about their children’s safety.

They contacted the DA councillor, Mr Tim Denny, and said they want the potholes fixed and the traffic lights in town to work properly.

Mr Denny also raised the issue of no traffic officers at schools to help the scholar patrol children in the mornings and afternoons when the schools open and close.

In a previous press statement, the Head of Marketing and Communications, Mr Henry Masango, said that there was not enough money to fix all the potholes.

The Echo and Ridge Times asked Mr Masango for comment regarding these issues again and he said: “A tender to appoint a panel of service providers to help the municipality with road maintenance have been advertised.

“The service providers will focus on all the paved roads, while the municipal team will still be trying their best to maintain other roads.

“The chief of traffic is constantly evaluating the need for the deployment of traffic officers at schools, especially when the current scholar patrol system is not effective enough to deal with the safe crossing of pupils.

“The traffic lights are fixed as and when they malfunction, subject to the availability of parts which are unfortunately not store items that can be purchased in bulk due to the risk they pose as well as the limited warranty period they carry.”
