Programme supports learners with mathematics and science

Mr Douglas Sithole leads programme in Kinross.

Mr Douglas Sithole from Kinross will begin to initiate a non-formal mechanism to assist learners with mathematics and physical sciences.

The programme comes after Mr Doulgas identified challenges in the educational system.

He said education from primary to secondary learning requires continuous support.

“An academic and social change impacts greatly on how a learner will perform in the classroom.

“Through the social change aspect the learners face tadolescent stage, with arguments at home with the parents. As the marks go down, nobody supports effective learning.”

The project aims at guiding and providing academic support that enables to challenge the high school phase.

Learners are most likely to succeed once they taste a little bit of success.

Mr Douglas has run a similar project in the past year at Thistle Grove Combined School and the learners have done well in their final exams.

“Learners usually do not get enough support to achieve their desired goals.

“The project want to help learners who have potential in mathematics who passed with 35 per cent and above.

“A challenge that the programme will face is the transporting of learners and a sponsor for transport would go a long way.

“The diversity in maths is very big and that is why I enjoy teaching mathematics.”

Learners who have passed Grade 11 will begin with the first stage of the project on Sunday, 10 December and will end on 20 December at Agape Church in Kinross.
