DA organises march against GMM to show their concerns over Eskom account

It will take place on Friday, 3 November at 3pm from the Lillian Ngoyi Centre.

The DA is organising a march to show their concerns over Govan Mbeki Municipality’s Eskom account.

It will take place on Friday, 3 November at 3pm from the Lillian Ngoyi Centre.

They will gather at the centre at 2pm and begin marching at 3pm.

The DA will hand over a memorandum to the municipality at 4pm.

This came after the municipality repeatedly failed to honour its payment agreement with the electricity provider and Eskom eventually implemented power cuts in the municipality.

The power cuts were stopped after the municipality had to paid Eskom R51 million.

However, they still owe Eskom R450 million.

“The electricity blackouts have not only led to investor uncertainty, but also to a violent service delivery protest and to the frustration of residents.

“We demand that the municipality improves its revenue generation and collection systems, pay its debt to suppliers within the required 30 day period, to not use its equitable share to pay debts and to adhere to its Eskom debt repayment plans.”
