Dain and Amanda win regatta

Storm damages yachts at Trichardtsfontein Dam.

TRICHARDT – Hein and Amanda Hurter won the regatta held at Trichardtsfontein Dam last weekend with three points.

The Highveld Sailing Club hosted the race.

“Although it was plain sailing in front, we had quite a battle for second place with Sean Boyle and Marius O’Neill only being able to secure the spot in the last race, giving them a total of seven points,” said Dain Hurter from the club.

Patat and Endri Els, two newcomers to sailing, followed shortly after Boyle and O’Neill to take the third place with eight points.

According to Mr Hurter, Saturday started off with a light south westerly wind gusting up to about nine knots and with the sun out it was the perfect day out with the newer and younger sailors on the boats.

“After three races we called it a day and decided that racing will continue on Sunday.

“Sunday equalled carnage.

“After a severe storm hit the area almost all the boats were out with damages sustained in the storm,” said Mr Hurter.

Racing on Sunday was eventually called off and it gave sailors the needed time to repair their yachts.

Members of the Highveld Sailing Club are currently preparing for the Round the Island Race 2014 that will be held on the Vaaldam.

This race is hosted by Lake Deneysville Yacht Club.
