More than a hundred protesters face various charges, including public violence and theft, after the violent protest in the area on Monday, 16 October.
Disgruntled locals took to the street on 15 October to protest against Govan Mbeki Municipality over Eskom bulk electricity interruptions.
They burned tyres and blocked all entrances and exits to eMbalenhle.
A vehicle was torched for allegedly hitting a child in Extension 12.
Chaos erupted the following day as the protest gained momentum.
Schools and Mall at eMba were closed.
Angry and uncontrollable protesters looted Somalian shops and burned down municipal buildings, including the main office in Extension 8 and the offices in Extension 17 and 4.
Municipal trucks, cars and about three shops belonging to foreign nationals were torched.
Taifa Joint that belongs to the former municipal manager, Mr Mmela Mahlangu, was also set alight.
Govan Mbeki Municipality confirmed on 16 October that a safe with an undisclosed amount of money was stolen.
Capt Nkosi said no casualties were reported at the time of going to press.
