Angry mobs torch former municipal manager’s business in eMbalenhle

According to Capt Bettina Zondo of Secunda Police Station the situation in eMbalenhle is very tense.

Angry protesters have been blocking roads, burning tyres, torching properties and vehicles in eMbalenhle since yesterday, over the Eskom bulk power interruptions due to the municipal debt to Eskom.

Municipal buildings and three Somalian owned shops in Extension 8, 4 and 17 have been torched, looted and some burned down.

Capt Zondo says some of the angry protesters have been arrested.

According to a post from the Secunda Sector Police a police chopper is monitoring the areas and there is no need to panic.
