Charl Cilliers Police officer will reappear in court on 6 July.

CHARL CILLIERS – Const Simangaliso Phungwayo from Charl Cilliers Police Station and his three accomplices, Doctor Sibeko, Simanga Sibilwane and Phuthuma Ntombela, were remanded in custody after appearing in Standerton Magistrate’s Court for robbing a bakery.

The appearance of the four suspects came after the bakery was robbed on Saturday, 24 June during which a group of about seven armed men accosted the owner of the bakery and his wife while they were cashing up at closing time in Standerton.

They robbed the couple of an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene.

After the robbery, the owner chased after the villains while his wife activated security alarms.

The swift response of the Kasselman Security Guards in collaboration with the police, saw the immediate arrest of four of the perpetrators before they could reach their getaway vehicle that was parked close to the scene.

A manhunt for the three suspects who got away is underway and the police are optimistic that they will be found soon.

The men will reappear in court on 6 July.
