Kidnapping allegations of Primary School children are untrue

The circulating voice note about kidnapping of school girls is untrue.

Allen Makhunga Primary School has disputed a circulating WhatsApp voice message of a woman warning parents about men who kidnapped a learner from the school on 26 May.

She said the girl was with two other learners who managed to escape and report the incident.

The voice note went viral in the area and has stirred fear among parents.

Ms Priscilla Masombuka, principal, said the message is untrue as none of the learners was reported kidnapped.

“We call on parents to stay calm.

“We condemn the person who was spreading these unfounded allegations.”

Police said they are investigating the source of the message.

Capt Magonseni Nkosi, police spokesman, said the school confirmed that all learners were safe and that no case was opened.

He said only one case of kidnapping and sexual assault was reported recently.

A 12-year-old girl was on her way to school in Ext 12 with her younger sister, when an unknown man confronted them.

According to Capt Nkosi, the man took the 12-year-old girl to an open field in Ext 5 where he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

The girl managed to escape and return to school.

“Police are investigating.

“About the WhatsApp message that is circulating, it remains unfounded.

“We urge the source of this message to come forward to help the police with their investigation.”

No one has been arrested.
