Man dies when shack burns down in Kinross on Friday night

Family of seven loses all they had in fire.

Ms Maria Mahlangu, one of a family of seven who lost everything in the fire, said they suspect the fire might have been caused by a candle.

Ms Mahlangu said they heard her niece screaming and asking for help from her bedroom and when they woke up the fire had already spread to other rooms.

“The mother opened her bedroom door and she escaped with burns all over her body.

“Neighbours tried to help, but it was already too late and we lost everything,” said the aunt who added that an ambulance and the police were summoned to the scene.

The police found the burnt body of the man.

Ms Mahlangu said her niece returned home with her boyfriend and did not inform the family.

The family does not know who he is.

Ms Mahlangu’s niece was taken to Evander Hospital.

The family needs eMdibini Combined School clothes for a girl aged nine and a boy aged seven.

Another child aged three,  two women (size 34) and another woman (size 38) lost all their clothes.

Ms Mahlangu asked for the community’s help as the family depend on her domestic work salary.
