Six armed men arrested in Bethal

Six handguns were found in the air filter holder of the vehicle.

BETHAL – Local police arrested six men on Monday for alleged armed robbery.

They received information that the alleged robbers were travelling from Bethal after an armed robbery at a store in Dirkiesdorp.

“We received information about a white bakkie with six suspects that might have been travelling towards Bethal.

“The suspects might have been involved in crime activities that included an armed robbery.

“We followed the lead and saw a white bakkie travelling in Bethal’s direction on the N17 highway.

“We ordered them to pull over as they passed the police station and told the suspects to get out of the vehicle.

“After a thorough search, we found hand pistols as well as other stolen goods,” said Const Andreas Strydom.

According to the police, it is alleged that the suspects robbed a business at gun point in Dirkiesdorp in the early hours of 5 December.

The suspects were found in possession of stolen goods, including nine fire-arms, about R30 000, cell phones, shoes and jewellery.

The men were taken to Bethal Police Station for detention and all suspected stolen property were seized.

“As we are in the festive season, we will be experiencing a lot of criminal activities and as the police, we will do our best to ensure that we prevent crime in our policing precinct and ensure that all perpetrators of crime are brought to book,” said Lt Col Petrus Nzima, Bethal Police Station commander.

He thanked the team for responding swiftly to the complaint and for ensuring that they arrest the suspects.
