Casual Day brings joy to the wheelies

Ms Botha said the school is 21 years old and needs maintenance inside and outside.

eMBALENHLE – Basizeni Special School pupils received a new playground with swings and a roundabout custom-designed for pupils in wheelchairs.

The school principal, Ms Mirriam Rampai, said the swings and roundabout were bought with the proceeds of last year’s Casual Day donations.

“The school was the top performer in the province, raising R115 590 from the public. A portion of the donations was used by the school and the remainder goes to create awareness of persons with disabilities countrywide. We are proud that not only did we benefit, but we were able to make a contribution towards the disability sector nationally,” said Ms Mariette Botha, a teacher.

Ms Botha said the school is 21 years old and needs maintenance inside and outside.

The school will be focusing on developing and creating classrooms, workshops, a playground and sports environment with the necessary educational equipment, giving each pupil the opportunity to develop to their full potential.

The chairman of the school governing body, Mr Louis Botha, said he was privileged to apply his expertise to improve the lives of young people with special needs.

“Basizeni has positive, enthusiastic staff members and joyful pupils. The only obstacle standing in the way of us achieving our vision, is funding as we are entering a new phase, namely revamping the school and getting a new bus,” said Ms Botha.

She urged the public to continue supporting them through Casual Day stickers and can be contacted at 082 459 1009.
