Dr Aaron Motsoaledi suspends two doctors

Two Evander hospital doctors were suspended.

Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, minister of health, has suspended two Evander Hospital doctors for allegedly conducting an operation in a ward.

Ms Sesi Malaza (19) was admitted a week ago while she was in labour.

According to the family, she was healthy when she arrived there with the neighour but everything went wrong while the doctors were examining her.

It is alleged that the two doctors conducted an operation in a ward instead of a theatre.

The new born baby died on the same day and Ms Malaza was transferred to one of the private hospitals in eMalahleni where she died a few days later. Her clothes were wet with blood and blood cloths and something that looked like human fat and body parts were found in the plastic clothes.

“We are still traumatised and hurt by what happened.

“We will make sure that those who did this will face the hands of justice.”

“Did the two doctors butcher my daughter or what?

“No one was willing to tell me exactly what happened but I hope the ministers’ visit will give answers,” said the father of Ms Malaza.

Dr Motsoaledi visited the Malaza family on Monday, 13 july.

He told them that the two doctors were suspended while the circumstances regarding the death of the teenage mother and her new-born child, were investigated.

“We regard the alleged conduct of these doctors serious as they point to gross negligence and therefore an investigation has been launched.

“In medicine they will call it mal-practice or negligence and a criminal case was opened.

“The doctors will not be allowed to examine anyone until the Health Profession Council has made its ruling.

Mr Malaza said although he was satisfied by Dr Motsoaledi’s visit, he was not ready to talk to the media yet.
