Hoërskool Secunda’s first rugby team was crowned the 2023 Noordvaal champions in the Shield finals played against Hoërskool Oos-Moot on August 26, on home ground.

Out of 19 games played throughout the season, Secunda won 16, secured two draws, and lost one match against Paul Roos.

The weekend’s finals saw Secunda clinch the lead at halftime with a score of 20–14. The final blow of the whistle in the second half determined Secunda’s victorious win of 35–29.

Players Jayden Schnuir, Zander Scheepers, Jean du Toit and Ryan Erasmus all scored tries. Luan Lottering did not disappoint with three out of four goals and taking all three of his penalty kicks.

Coaches Tiaan Moore, JJ Hennop, George Matfield and Mike van der Walt, congratulated the team and said that it was an end to a special season with a special group of players.

“It was truly an honor and we are extremely happy with how the season ended,” said Moore.
