eMba resident dies at EFF 10th celebration

He said that time EFF only known of 2 of its members who died at the stadium, one who fell down and died immediately and the other one who hit by the bus while they were on their way to the stadium.

A man from eMbalenhle died in the Baragwanath General Hospital after his fall at the FNB Stadium (Soccer City) during the EFF’s 10th-anniversary celebration on July 29.

Dumisane Moyo, also known as Makero, will be buried this weekend along with the answers to the mystery of just exactly how he sustained his head injuries at the celebration.

According to Collen Sedibe, Mpumalanga EFF chairperson, the provincial leadership always makes sure all their followers are accounted for, have transport back home and are not left behind.

Sedibe said that after the latest rally, members who found themselves lost were directed to the Booysen Police Station near the FNB Stadium to be picked up for the journey home.

Dumisane Moyo from eMbalenhle died in hospital after falling at the FNB Stadium during the EFF’s 10th-anniversary celebration.

“Only 32 people from Mpumalanga were left behind by their transport. We arranged taxis to take them home.”

Sedibe said they were just about done when they received word that Moyo was missing. His photo was circulated on social media platforms.

“We eventually found him in hospital on August 4. He had suffered injuries resulting from a fall at the stadium,” said Sedibe.

Sedibe and his team were informed the next day that Moyo died due to his injuries. The EFF Mpumalanga provincial office held his memorial service at the Trinity Church in Ext 15, eMbalenhle, on August 10.

They celebrated his life and sent condolences to his family. Sedibe said the EFF paid all burial costs for Moyo and will provide support to his family.

“We didn’t think that we would ever find ourselves in this situation.”

Sedibe said up until Moyo’s death. the EFF only knew about two members who died on the day of the celebration rally.

“One was jubilantly dancing at the stadium when he fell from the fifth level to the second level of the stadium. He died immediately.

“The other person was run over by a bus while on the way to the stadium.”

Sedibe said he received word last week of a fourth member who died.

“I was informed the fourth person is from Soweto and he also died in Baragwanath General Hospital. This is not something we expected and we are still in shock about what happened,” said Sedibe.

Moyo was described as a leader who always fought for better services for his community.
