GMM electrical technician assaulted on site in Secunda

She was assaulted and dragged by her hair.

Despicable behaviour and an act of violence by a resident resulted in a case being opened at the Secunda Police Station after a woman, an electrical technician for the Govan Mbeki Municipality (GMM), was assaulted, dragged by her hair and her cellphone broken at ring substation three in Secunda on the evening of March 26.

A resident assaulted her on-site while she was working to restore power to the ring substation.
Donald Green, the GMM’s media spokesperson, said the technician was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

“The municipality strongly condemns this criminal behaviour,” said Green.

Green said the perpetrator should know that there are consequences for his actions. The perpetrator was due in court on March 30.

“When our staff, who continue going above and beyond the call of duty, are too traumatised to go to work, the communities suffer.

“The municipality appeals to community members to stop intimidating, assaulting and threatening its officials and/or damaging the municipality’s assets and infrastructure components,” concluded Green.
