Cops warn against buying goods off social media

Mxhotshelwa said it is difficult to trace this type of crime and to catch the perpetrator.

The Evander police cautioned residents to refrain from buying goods or cars they see on social media or Facebook.

According to Sergeant Zukiswa Mxhotshelwa, cases have been opened where people have bought vehicles advertised on Facebook, but then the sellers disappeared with the vehicles.

The victims only realise they have been scammed when the vehicles are not delivered and the conman’s contact number is no longer working.

Mxhotshelwa said it is difficult to catch these scam artists because all the information is untraceable.
