Suspect in double murder case will be back in the dock in March

Police found two bodies in accused's room.

The cases against an eMbalenhle man accused of two murders and allegedly contravening a protection order were postponed to March 1 so that he can consult with his lawyer.

Leloko Mapitsi appeared briefly on the murder charges before the Evander Magistrate’s Court on February 23, where the case was postponed to February 24 for him to apply for legal aid.

Mapitsi was arrested after discovering the bodies of a woman and a man on different days in his room in Ext 11, eMbalenhle.

The woman’s body was found first in the bed after Mapitsi’s mother, Maleloko, alerted the police of a foul odour and flies coming from her son’s room.

She called the police when she could not access the room.

Her son had locked the door and taken the key with him when he was arrested two days before and was still in police custody.

Mapitsi initially appeared in court on February 16 for domestic violence against his mother after he allegedly violated a restraining order.

That case was postponed to February 23 and he was kept in police custody. Police also found the body of a man under the bed on February 18.

Mapitsi and his legal aid lawyer must still decide if he wants to apply for bail. While in the dock on Friday, Mapitsi raised his hand.

He asked to speak to his mother who has a restraining order against him. The court denied the request. Some eMbalenhle community members picketed outside the court.
