Bronkhorstspruit resident opens up about his 14 days in hospital

Bronkhorstspruit man now has a new view on life.

Jean-Pierre Verster’s life took a dramatic turn for the worse on November 10 last year when he suddenly found himself on his bedroom floor.

The 36-year-old from Bronkhorstspruit was rushed to the hospital. Many tests were conducted before doctors discovered that he had a life-threatening aneurysm arising from a branch of his splenic artery.

“When an aneurysm like this is detected, only about one in five people will survive such a rupture,” said Verster.

But this was not the end of his woes. During the aneurysm operation, Verster suffered a stroke that affected his sight and balance.

“This is being addressed with rehabilitation consultations.”

Verster spent the next two weeks in the hospital and finally went home on November 24. He was greeted with a Pavlova from friends and family who could not wait to nurse him back to health.

Verster is grateful to the doctor who saved his life on that fateful day before he was transferred to Midstream. His gratitude was also extended to the staff as well as friends and family who supported him throughout his ordeal.

“This is real and can happen to anyone. You are here to shine your light brightly and be the change you want to see around you. Just keep on doing what you love,” concluded Verster.
