WATCH: Lekwa Municipality gets interdict against forum members

Eskom Forum is not recognised forum anymore.

The decision of Lekwa Municipality to remove the Eskom Forum as a recognised forum, resulted in chaos at the municipality’s main building on Thursday, November 22 when members of this forum protested and chased staff out and manhandled a few people.

The Eskom Forum was formed by a group of businessmen and the aim was to have more influence on Eskom and other places.

Municipal workers called the police who arrived at the municipal offices, but they could not really do much.

Members of the Eskom Forum insisted on a meeting with municipal officials and later went to the council room to have a meeting.

The municipality has now opened a criminal case against members of this forum.

In a council meeting, DA Councillor, Alberto Franco, suggested that any business associated with the Eskom Forum, should be blacklisted and banned from doing any future business with Lekwa Municipality.

This suggestion was accepted by the council.

At a meeting that was held by the municipality after the incident on November 22, it was said that the municipality is likely to have such protests on a regular basis and it will continue to disturb the business of the municipality.

Officials and councillors decided that it is important that Lekwa Municipality considers a legal protection action against these kinds of incidences in the medium to long term in the form of a court interdict.

Lekwa Municipality approved the Lekwa Economic Development (LED) Forum to be a recognised forum in the municipal area.

The LED Forum will now be the official forum in the Lekwa municipal area.
