Mayor of Standerton wishes the community a merry festive season and prosperous new year

He referred to the myriad of challenges faced by the municipality and added that they are hard at work to deal with these.

Delani Louis Thabethe, executive mayor of the Lekwa Municipality, sent Christmas wishes to the community of Standerton.

“We have come to the part of the year where we take stock of the past months and looking back, it has definitely been an epic, challenging year,” Thabethe said.

“Be it as it may, we can look back and say that through strengthened political and administrative interface, we are working very hard to try and stabilise the situation.”

He referred to the myriad of challenges faced by the municipality and added that they are hard at work to deal with these.

The mayor mentioned that part of work done to date, include ongoing engagements with key role players such as Sanral, Sasol, Seriti Mining and Goldi to assist with road repairs and maintenance.

The completion of the repair of Hlongwane Drive in Sakhile is part of the ongoing pothole patching programme.

“One of our biggest challenge is the ongoing load-shedding and persistent incidents of cable theft.”

The ongoing electrical maintenance programme has allowed Lekwa to repair a cable line in Ext 6 and to repair substations and installation of protective structures for electrical substations. Communities were urged to remain vigilant to assist the municipality in reporting cable theft as it affects all of us.

“As we take this opportunity to wish our communities a safe and festive Christmas season, let us not forget the many families who continue to struggle and live below the poverty line.

“Let’s take some time and share with the less-privileged over this season of giving and sharing. Let us also enjoy and celebrate responsibly with a plea that we remain safe on our roads.”

Thabethe also said that violence and abuse by men have no place in society and called on all men to speak out and not allow themselves to create victims by keeping quiet.

“Men who speak out are able to act and effect change and help others. Let us all be the change we want to see.”

He concluded by wishing communities, employees, fellow political leadership and all strategic partners and role players a merry Christmas season and a happy and prosperous new year.
