Body parts of baby found in eMbalenhle: ‘This is not the first dumped infant’

Ward councillor claims municipal workers recently found a baby in a sewer pipe.

The burnt head and hand of a baby were found outside a resident’s home in Ext 15 on Wednesday, September 21.

A neighbour covered both body parts with a white container.

Residents were shocked about the incident and suspect that dogs might have carried the body parts to the yard during the night.

“Where did these parts come from? This not the first time we experience something of this nature,” said a resident.

“A baby’s dead body was found next to an illegal dumping site last year. We still do not know who the culprit is.”

Another resident questioned the morality of society.

“Why do people do such horrible things to innocent babies?

“Why not rather give the unwanted child up for adoption?

“We know that the culprit is also standing here among us, watching the scene,” said the resident.

Ward 31 councillor, Marius Masinga, said the Govan Mbeki Municipality also faces gruesome scenes such as this.

He said municipal employees recently found the body of a baby while unblocking a sewer pipe at Ext 20, eMbalenhle.

Masinga asked women not to kill their children, but to rather turn to government institutions such as social services, clinics and hospitals for help with unwanted pregnancies.

An infant’s body was also found in a bag in a stormwater channel at eMbalenhle, Ext 16, known as Mandela Section on July 25.

An inquest docket was opened. According to the community, a nyaope addict found the little body in the bag.
