Committee launches Local Black Business Chamber in Secunda

Chamber will provide more opportunities for members.

The executive mayor of Govan Mbeki Municipality, Nhlakanipho Zuma was the keynote speaker at the launch of the Local Black Business Chamber (LBBC) at Graceland Hotel, Casino and Country Club on Thursday, June 2.

The mayoral committee, representatives of Sasol and several other businessmen in the area attended the event.

The mayor pledged with the community to support the LBBC and he encouraged local businesses to become members of this chamber.

He further said the municipality is disappointed in local businesses who have, in the past, not completed projects awarded to them by the municipality.

He encouraged the chamber to address such issues with its members.

Marcus Mlungu (secretary of the LBBC) said the idea of this initiative is to give local businesses more opportunities.

The executive committee of the LBBC comprises Thulani Kgomo (chairman), Nosti Mathebula (deputy chairman), Mlungu (secretary), Necon Mthombeni (public relations), Wandile Mazibuko (finances and administration), Sibusiso Mkoko (additional member) and Siyambonga Mpukwana (additional member).

The committee thanked Palesa Monoto who was the event coordinator.

This chamber’s next event will be held later this year and they will be addressing the issue of funding for businesses.

The membership fee to join the LBBC is R1 000 per year and some of the benefits include business education to the members in the form of workshops, business profiling which can be used to source opportunities, the opportunity to take part in social responsibility projects, networking sessions with key stakeholders and access to funding information and facilities.
