Businessman gunned down in Bethal, suspected killers in custody

Both suspects will appear in the Bethal Magistrate's court on a charge of murder on Friday, 27 December.

BETHAL – A prominent businessman was gunned down in Du Plooy Street at about 11pm on Christmas day.

Police received a complaint about shooting incident in the area late at night and upon their arrival at the scene, they found Mr Bongani Manana, owner of Upper Echelon and Bethal Dam, lying in the street with a gunshot wound in his chest.

Mr Manana was allegedly from Bethal Dam on his way to open up for customers at Upper Echelon.

Just before he could reach the place, shots were fired and everyone who were in the street at the time, ran for cover.

A wounded Mr Manana was taken to Bethal Hospital by Bethal Emergency Medical Services (EMS). He later succumbed to his injuries.

Police conducted a preliminary investigation which led to the arrest of two 27-year-old suspects. The police siezed two guns and six rounds of ammunition.

The suspects are being detained in the police’s holding cells in Bethal.

The police are now investigating a case of murder. The motive for the killing is yet unknown.

Both suspects will appear in the Bethal Magistrate’s court on a charge of murder on Friday, 27 December.
