Police concern over steep increase of hijackings in eMbalenhle

Motorists have been warned of the rise in car hijackings and cautioned to be vigilant

eMBALENHLE – Police have warned motorists to be on high alert following a spike of car hijackings in the area.

Police spokesperson, Const Busi Mthethwa, said in one of the incidents on Sunday, 12 May at about 11.30pm in Extension 1, a motorist was driving in the area when three men confronted him.

They pointed a firearm at him and told him to step out of the car.

“The motorist was assaulted and the hijackers allegedly tried to abduct him, however they were distracted.

“In another incident a motorist was picking up his wife in Mandela Section, when three men approached him while he was loading his wife’s bags into the car.

“The men pointed a firearm at him and told him to lie down. They then fled with the car.

“Another incident took place in Extension 12 where three men hijacked another car.

“We have noted that in all incidents, the suspect are three.”

She said the police are working around the clock to make arrests soon.
