Fetus found at Trichardt’s water treatment plant

Post mortem will reveal gender of fetus

TRICHARDT – Police are investigating the discovery of a fetus at the Trichardt Water Treatment Plant last week.

According to Const Valencia Koma, spokesman for Trichardt Police Station, a process controller found the fetus and called the police.

It was stuck to a screen bar at the sewerage plant. Two possibilities exist as to how the fetus ended up in the treatment plant. It was either flushed down a toilet or thrown into a storm water drain.

The police could not yet determine the gender of the fetus. A paramedic suspected the mother must have been about four months pregnant. A post mortem will determine whether the child was aborted or still born.

A case of concealment of birth was opened.

Anyone with information, should phone Sgt Mattie Breitenbach at 017 638 0241.
