[VIDEO] Cops clamp down on vagrants in Secunda CBD

SECUNDA – Secunda police, law enforcers from the Govan Mbeki Municipality, cleaners and other stakeholders formed part of Operation Fiela to clean the CBD from street sleepers today, 22 March.

Col Maggie Mbokane (Secunda police) and Mr Sipho Mlotshwa (Govan Mbeki Municipality assistant manager: compliance and law enforcement) headed the operation.

The team split into three groups that swept through the town, confiscating trollies, bedding and bags from those squatting in the CBD and at the taxi rank. The operation eventually also rippled out towards areas in Scheepers Street near the Shell Garage, and the Driefontein Shopping Centre.

All the confiscated trollies and goods were loaded onto municipal trucks and removed.
