Thabo’s ultimate guide for exercising outdoors

Personal trainer Thabo Ntuli says exercising outdoors is not only easier on the wallet but the fresh air and sunshine can boost your energy levels.

POLOKWANE – Take your workout to the next level and move it outdoors.

Personal trainer and owner of TSculpt outdoor training, Thabo Ntuli, says physical activity outdoors is not only easier on the wallet but can improve your quality of life and in turn increase your lifespan.

Thabo says if you are not interested in going to the gym or don’t have time, then exercising outdoors can be your best friend.

“Exercise done outdoors feels less strenuous than similar exercises done indoors.”

He explained that the fresh outdoor air and natural light invigorates a person and this boost in energy can push you closer to achieving your maximum performance.

“Sunlight enhances energy generation in the muscles and oxidation of the tissues. Just keep in mind that this can also lead to dehydration and sunburn. Always make sure that you have enough water in your bottle, a towel and most importantly sunscreen lotion,” he said.

He added that there are countless benefits from working out. “Your quality of life improves, which increases your lifespan. It is also a great way to relieve stress, a great confidence booster, and most of all, you’ll look and feel good.”

Try one of Thabo’s outdoor workouts:

“Start off with warm-ups. A 10-minute walk or jog around the block is ideal.”

Thabo advised to start off with a workout once a day, three times a week. “This is a good start. As you get fitter, you can easily push that to five or six times a week. Remember that rest is as important as stepping up to the challenge, you don’t want to overwhelm yourself and strain your body,” he said.

He concluded that it’s very important to talk with your doctor before you start a brand-new workout routine.
